As part of Il futuro è una schiuma cosmica, the third edition of the TO.BE call dedicated to the professional growth of emerging artists, who are completing or have completed their training, Recontemporary presents a solo exhibition by Beatrice Mika Sakaki “A Drop of Sweat Along the Belly”. The exhibition proposal curated by Ghёddo is part of a broader program of exhibitions that includes the collaboration between artists and contemporary art spaces in Turin. The entire project is realized with the support of Fondazione Venesio and with the patronage of Accademia Albertina di Belle Arti di Torino and Città di Torino. On the occasion of the inauguration it will be possible to taste a drink proposed by “Sciarada – Bistrò e Miscelati”, inspired by the exhibition.

A Drop of Sweat Along the Belly (Una Goccia di Sudore Lungo la Pancia), is a project specifically conceived by Beatrice Mika Sakaki for the Recontemporary space curated by Ghёddo.

The exhibition explores the concept of limit, understood as physical and virtual distance, through an installation composed of 3D animated videos and spatial elements in plexiglass, inspired by the protection and control devices of social distancing in public spaces.

The protagonist at the center of the visual narration challenges the extension of the digital environment with her own body. Like the path of a drop of sweat on the skin, her movement follows an imposed trajectory, shaped by external constraints.

The videos alternate pauses and restarts in a choreographic dialogue that directly involves the viewer’s gaze. Superimposed on the displays, the plexiglass panels act simultaneously as a visual filter and isolation screen, thus codifying the space and the interaction of the public in a sequence of passages, obstacles and shortcuts.

Beatrice Mika Sakaki’s artistic practice uses resources collected from the web and visual programming languages to rework, reorganize and reconstruct information into coded outputs and virtual landscapes.
