ARCO Madrid is Spain’s international contemporary art fair which, since 1982, has been one of the main art market platforms and an essential piece in the international circuit dedicated to the promotion and diffusion of artistic creation.

In the 2021 edition, to be held exceptionally in the month of July, a painstaking selection of national and international galleries will once again be presented in the different programs.

General Program: the fair’s backbone made up of top-tier galleries selected by the Organizing Committee.

Opening: the fair’s section dedicated to the discovery of new proposals selected by Övül Durmuşoğlu and Julia Morandeira.

In addition to the gallery contents, ARCO Madrid will present other spaces that will expand the visitors’ perspectives of contemporary art.

    Offering a rare and reflective insight into the seminal South African photographer Ernest Cole, A Lens in Exile is the first exhibition of his photographs documenting New York City during the height of the civil rights movement in America. Best known for his radical images documenting the violence of apartheid, Cole fled South Africa in 1966 and was officially made stateless in 1968. The exhibition reflects on the courage and resilience of the millions of refugees worldwide who are forced to leave their familiar surroundings and build a new life far from home.   • Adraint Khadafhi Bereal: The Black Yearbook

    When photographer Adraint Bereal graduated from the University of Texas, he self-published an impressive volume of portraits, personal statements, and interviews that explored UT’s campus culture and offered an intimate look at the lives of Black students matriculating within a majority white space. Bereal’s work was inspired by his first photo exhibition at the George Washington Carver Museum in Austin, entitled 1.7, that unearthed the experiences of the 925 Black men that made up just 1.7% of UT’s total 52,000 student body.
