Bergen International Festival
May 22 – Jun 5, 2024
Various Locations
Bergen, Norway

A hub for the Northern European arts scene, the festival has a multifaceted programme profile renowned for world premieres and new productions of music, opera, theatre and dance. Unique venues, including Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg’s own home and the 750-year-old royal hall Håkonshallen, constitute a rich historical framework around a vibrant festival which every year gives audiences hundreds of live, exploratory events on dozens of stages indoors and out.

The opening ceremony marks the beginning of 15 days of diverse experiences for thousands of people both on, in front of and behind the stage. Inspired by Mahler’s Symphony No. 8 – also called the Symphony of a Thousand – the opening ceremony will present many voices and collaborators. The day’s programme includes artistic elements and speeches, with more details to be announced during the spring.
