Charta is a contemporary photography festival focused on photo books and independent publishing. The theme of this edition, Demons, aims at investigating the darkest derivations of the human condition, from territorial to social and psychological issues, giving a transversal perspective on contemporary challenges.

The theme “Demons” is developed through 100 photo-books that will be hosted in different expo in the neighborhood of San Lorenzo, in Rome. The editorial proposal of the Festival will be enriched by a great collective exhibition, video-installations and projections.

  • Mara Palena: Oikeiôsis
    Witty Books

    The knowledge of one’s inner self as the sole tool for self-fulfillment, for stoically embracing the human condition in all its turmoils – that is what ancient Greeks used to call Oikeiôsis. The same word was chosen by Mara Palena to call a project that unfolds over the duration of existence. The analog images shot by the artist from her childhood to today do not follow any external precept. (more…)

    Curated by Mia Locks, Miranda July: New Society is the first solo museum exhibition dedicated to Miranda July’s work. Spanning three decades, from the early 1990’s until today, the exhibition includes early short films, performance, and multimedia installations. The exhibition debuts F.A.M.I.L.Y (Falling Apart Meanwhile I Love You), a multi-channel video installation July made in collaboration with seven strangers via Instagram. (more…)
