This exhibition surveys photos, paintings, and sculptures by 15 artists of Fortes D’Aloia & Gabriel who share a particular focus on urban morphology and its contemporary phenomena.

Fortes D’Aloia & Gabriel Carpintaria (Rio de Janeiro) is pleased to present the summer group show Cities in Dust. The title is borrowed from British band Siouxsie and the Banshees’ song released in 1985. The exhibit is comprised of photos, paintings and sculptures by 15 of the artists represented by Fortes D’Aloia & Gabriel, which share a particular focus on urban morphology and its contemporary phenomena.

    The inaugural exhibition of the Sapieha Palace seeks to unfold the spirit and history of the palace itself, as well as the diverse narratives surrounding its past. The works on displays and their arrangement act as a soft, transparent layer placed over the palace spaces, having been painted and repainted multiple times. The spatial and conceptual interaction thus reveals the previous and ongoing influence of a multitude of forces. (more…)

    Dia Center was founded in New York City in 1974 by Philippa de Menil, Heiner Friedrich, and Helen Winkler to help artists achieve visionary projects that might not otherwise be realized because of scale or scope.   • Eric Bachmann: The One-Man Water Cannon Test

    Following several violent clashes between youths and city police in Switzerland’s largest city during the summer of 1968, the city council, in consultation with the state council, decided to purchase four modern water cannon vehicles, two each for the city and cantonal police. However, by doing so, the city council overstepped its authority and bypassed the municipal council.
