Elise Corpataux: A Lifetime Waiting for Summer to Happen
May 29 – Jul 27, 2024
Suns.works
Zürich, Switzerland

With A Lifetime Waiting for Summer to Happen, suns.works is happy to present Elise Corpataux’s first solo show at the gallery. The exhibition brings together new and recent works by the artist, staging a scenery of fever-dreams, racing hearts, and deep plunges. Navigating through layers of memory and fragments of desire, Corpataux plays on different keys of nostalgia. Like a pop song or a sunset, her paintings are suspended between the iconic and the prosaic. They become a space for projection of a personal mystique that never quite succeeds to conceal its own conditioning.

Adrianna Ault was raised in New Orleans where a 350 mile levee system controls and holds back flood waters. This project began as Ault attempted to better understand the landscape surrounding the city, but evolved over the course of 5-years to encompass her changing family, journeys they took and the processing of grief. The levee became a metaphor for the barriers built in an attempt to ward off inevitable decline, and the onslaught of time and nature. (more…)

In the 1980s, a mere 234 warehouses dotted the landscape of the Inland Empire. Today, over 4,000 logistic centers have been implanted across the region in a rapid movement to bring commerce to the region. Once identified by its untouched land, the area has become enveloped by the sprawling network of warehouses that define the region’s skyline. As this part of Southern California quickly becomes the backbone of America’s road-based supply chain, it simultaneously introduces many repercussions to the daily lives of communities that call the Inland Empire home.
