The new cycle of paintings defines a real story that comes from photographic images taken in part by the artist Giacomo Modolo (Vicenza, 1988), others from the repertoire and archived, including album covers, internet, magazines, sometimes even joined, to then be subsequently reinterpreted and made his own through painting. Starting from the leading work “Shaman”, the oracle, the artist’s discourse is recomposed compared to previous works, with a new but recognizable research, linked to his recent past that has repercussions on the present, in a continuous tension and interpretation of the “raw seeing and feeling”.
What are these lights? “They are the flashes that burn out at dawn, they are latent energies of emotions that have been released and that become increasingly dim to the point of oblivion” as the curator Domenico Russo writes in the text that accompanies the exhibition “The surface of the painting on which the story, always a bit painful, takes place is the channel between thought and people, and is realized in the pictorial word that brings people together and unites”. To explain Giacomo Modolo’s work, the reference to Mark Fisher’s thought is fitting, according to which subjectivity and intimacy are fragmented in the face of social life. There is no hierarchy in the images, the figures seem to detach themselves from a mass media dimension, with the urgency placed by the artist on the need for a deeper and more conscious conduct of life, where the anxiety triggered by visual saturation and digital can be reduced. “To the extent that Modolo relates himself to social phenomena, he is an artist of the Other Individuality movement” writes Domenico Russo citing the current of Italian figurative painting.
Giacomo Modolo’s work with its colors, the line of the drawing that limits the scenes depicted in frames within which to quickly dive to capture the moment of the sensation before it escapes us, has been proposed by the Gallery since its opening in the artist’s previous exhibitions. New works are now returning with more mature stories between acid fluorescent yellows, blues and greens contrasted with the colors of the earth.
The exhibition will be the moment to generate new vibrations and confirm the emotions and images expected by the public who have followed Giacomo Modolo’s work for years.
