A book may be the accidental container of a text, the structure of which is irrelevant to the book: these are the books of bookshops and libraries. A book can also exist as an autonomous and self-sufficient form, including perhaps a text that emphasizes that form, a text that is an organic part of that form: here begins the new art of making books.
–Ulises Carrion
Writing is producing a text but not necessarily a book.
When we talk about an edition, we are mainly referring to its content (the text, the photos).
Writing is leaving traces on a material while creating subtle volumes.
Editing is composing on a medium, which is sometimes two-dimensional, but sometimes three-dimensional.
Can we create abstract writing in space using tangible materials?
Can we make words and poems float in the immaterial elements of space (light, air, smell, sound, etc.)?
At the same time, the edition has its own volume that allows it to be an object or a sculpture in space. How can we make the edition exist in the exhibition space as an installation, a sculpture, or even a video work, a painting or a performance?
How to make the volume of the edition become a link to activate space, time, light, air and memory?
How, as an artist-writer-editor, to define an art form or blur the boundaries between art forms?
Or how to break an established form to proceed with an organic nomadization?
–Wang yue, 2024
This is the proposal that Wang Yue sent to the two artists she chose; the exhibition In other words is the synthesis of their proposals adapted to the gallery space.
