As a teenager, Jyll Bradley spent a lot of time sitting in her family’s greenhouse in rural Kent observing the play between sunlight and glass, a visual language that has remained integral to her work since the 1980s. Since 2021 I have started a story about a group of girls and teenagers growing up in one of Palermo’s most historically complex and problematic neighborhoods: Danisinni. A neighborhood of Arab origin, it stands on a natural depression, as it was once the bed of the Papireto, one of the rivers that ran through Palermo. He shares an interest for vernacular cultures with Walker Evans, by whom he affirms having been strongly influenced since 1977.
