SPARK Art Fair Vienna
Mar 25–27, 2022
Marx Halle
Vienna, Austria

SPARK Art Fair Vienna will launch the European art season in March 2022. With its unique exhibition architecture of 90 solo presentations, three curated sections and a great mix of 80 Austrian and international galleries, it is Austria’s leading contemporary art fair.

With the announcement of the participating galleries and the solo presentations of emerging and established international artists which are to be exhibited, SPARK Art Fair Vienna continues on its successful path towards becoming one of the leading art fairs in Europe. In total, 39 galleries from Austria will be represented, and 45 selected solo presentations from contemporary and modern artists will be exhibited at the fair. Also in 2022, SPARK will present numerous previously unpublished works including artworks created especially for the art fair.

The response to our exhibition format, with its focus on individual presentations, open architecture, a diverse appeal, and the opportunity to experience national and international artists ‘up close’ through both their art and their presence, has been overwhelming after the premiere in 2021. Based on this success, SPARK Art Fair Vienna 2022 will offer an even better mix of emerging and established artists, from national and international galleries and from carefully selected areas of focus, thereby igniting a spark in the world of contemporary art.

  • Michael Radford: CRASH
    Publication
    Edition Taube
    International

In Michael Radford’s first artists’ book, we see shattered supercar bodies – forming a dialogue between consumer accidents and human desire, questioning these objects and their role in enabling petrol masculinity. The seductive high-gloss compositions draw us in, seen through the lens of automotive sexiness and the capitalist ideological machine, cannoned by the image. (more…)

  • Atiéna R. Kilfa: Special Effect
    May 4 – Sep 8, 2024
    Den Frie
    Copenhagen, Denmark

With Special Effect, Atiéna R. Kilfa presents a new body of works consisting of a short film and two large scale pencil drawings. In continuation of Kilfa’s investigation and restructuring of cinematic archetypes, Special Effect homes in on the nondescript figure of a man sitting at a desk. Shot in black and white, the film eerily evokes a timelessness of the figure by bringing it in resonance with pictorial genres reminiscent of various eras from German Expressionist cinema to the golden age of Hollywood film noir, fast forward to its 4K quality of today. Jun 1 – Aug 11, 2024
    Grand Central Art Center
    Santa Ana, CA, USA

In the 1980s, a mere 234 warehouses dotted the landscape of the Inland Empire. Today, over 4,000 logistic centers have been implanted across the region in a rapid movement to bring commerce to the region. Once identified by its untouched land, the area has become enveloped by the sprawling network of warehouses that define the region’s skyline. As this part of Southern California quickly becomes the backbone of America’s road-based supply chain, it simultaneously introduces many repercussions to the daily lives of communities that call the Inland Empire home. • Mikiko Hara: Small Myths
    Publication
    Chose Commune

Mikiko Hara has her own way of secretly capturing the strangers who cross her path: a young man on the train, a couple holding hands, a little girl playing in a park… Sometimes their eyes meet briefly as she presses the shutter, but Mikiko Hara does not exchange with her subjects. Yet, these portraits reveal something infinitely personal, as if the photographer and her subjects were bound by an invisible pact (more…)
