Candlestar’s consultancy services aim to add value by enhancing the work of internal teams at times of high intensity or through the introduction of new professional activities.

We write strategies and oversee their delivery. We advise on the recruitment of staff and specialist suppliers including designers, printers and web developers.

For nearly twenty years, Michael Benson and Fariba Farshad have curated a series of outstanding, often ground-breaking, exhibitions. Starting at the London Institute Gallery, they have curated over 100 exhibitions in major museums and galleries throughout the world.

Candlestar’s award-winning writers and producers create outstanding publications, websites, films and DVDs for a wide range of clients in education and the arts.

We are as at home with a blank sheet of paper or a half-formed idea as we are with a detailed creative brief. Either way the result is creative work of the highest quality.

  • Nhu Xuan Hua: Tropism

    Nhu Xuan Hua delved into the power of memories in a piece of work titled Tropism, Consequences of a Displaced Memory. The work gives a face to those tropisms that describe spontaneous and automatic reactions initiated by vivid emotions in response to primarily needs or past events in life. Based on archival pictures from her family, the digital intervention interprets these memories through a new angle, exploring the effect of dissipation generated by time passing and driven by the forces of an inherited memory.     A new immersive exhibition celebrating the universality and ingenuity of play: Ricochets is the largest institutional show in the UK by internationally renowned artist Francis Alÿs in almost 15 years. For the past two decades, Alÿs has travelled around the world to film the critically acclaimed series Children’s Games: from ‘musical chairs’ in Mexico, to ‘leapfrog’ in Iraq, ‘jump rope’ in Hong Kong, and ‘wolf and lamb’ in Afghanistan.     Polly Braden: Leaving Ukraine is an intimate portrait of women, forced to leave their homes following the Russian invasion of Ukraine on 24 February 2022. In this new series of work we see the extraordinary journeys undertaken by mothers, daughters, teenagers and babies in arms. Since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, Polly Braden has used her camera to document the lives of women and children unexpectedly scattered across Europe.     Curated by Mia Locks, Miranda July: New Society is the first solo museum exhibition dedicated to Miranda July’s work. Spanning three decades, from the early 1990’s until today, the exhibition includes early short films, performance, and multimedia installations. The exhibition debuts F.A.M.I.L.Y (Falling Apart Meanwhile I Love You), a multi-channel video installation July made in collaboration with seven strangers via Instagram. (more…)

    The German dramatist Heiner Müller observed that German history lies as if smothered by a rheumatism blanket: beneath there is warmth and stagnation, just enough to give the impression all is well, while the peripheries are freezing. Georg Kussmann’s photographs in FRG were created under this metaphoric blanket.
