I am a staff photographer at the San Antonio Express-News and a 2014 graduate of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After growing up on a farm in rural North Carolina, I found my way to photojournalism through majoring in astrophysics. During that time, I interned at The Chicago Tribune, The Tampa Bay Times, The Herald (Jasper, IN), The White House, and National Geographic Magazine.
My work has been recognized by Pictures of the Year International, College Photographer of the Year, National Press Photographers Association’s Best of Photojournalism, Magnum Photo’s 30 Under 30, the Hearst Journalism Awards, the Eddie Adams Workshop, and others. However, I would much rather talk about the many people who have been kind enough to allow me to tell their stories. Without them, my work would not be possible.
