Emma Brown is an artist working in Columbus, Ohio. She grew up in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania, where she began carrying a camera whenever possible. After graduating from Kenyon College of Gambier, Ohio with a BA in Studio Art, she volunteered for the refugee aid NGO Choose Love in Calais, France before returning to the US in 2018.
Raised by parents from different worlds in a small American town, Emma has grown into a biracial, bisexual identity with an appetite for images that resist black-and-white binaries and invite ambiguity. She values photographs made with intimacy and empathy, in moments of emotion that evoke vivid memories. Despite an eye obsessed by detail, her favorite pictures tend to be shot from the hip – or these days, the iPhone.
