I am a Brazilian-Italian artist currently based in Isola del Liri, Italy and engaged in an Art Practice Mfa at the School of Visual Arts, NY. I am interested in freeing the initial visual source material from its original narrative(s) so that it can move beyond the world of reproduction and into that of representation. For this to happen, forms are negotiated into their essential elements, layers and veils are put into use to form in an investigation of non-linearity and free association.
As the work dwells between what is cognitively understood and the yet unknown, new stories can unfold and are brought forward; each holding a fragment of a larger narrative. Family, myth, the encroaching forest – all the subjects of interest somehow re-emerge, albeit scrambled. Loose chapters interweave like memories coming together, in a celebration of life in its disjointedness and multiplicity.
Awards include The Chadwick Healey Prize for Painting and The Skinner’s Company Phillip Connard Travel Prize.
Exhibitions include Teatro Stabile Comunale, Isola del Liri, Italy; Aurore, CultRise, Rome; City & Guilds of London Art School Degree Show, Kennington, London; In the Making, The Rag Factory, Brick Lane, London; +44 Exhibition, St Anselm’s Church and Arts Lav, Kennington, London; Young Artist Partnership Pop Up Exhibition, New King’s Road, London.
