Bernd & Hilla Becher changed the course of late 20th century photography. Working as a couple, they focused on a single subject: the disappearing industrial architecture that fueled the modern era.

The Arctic was never considered a place for women, historically deemed unfit to deal with the challenges of an isolated life in the wilderness. This project aims to propose a different narrative.
We are rounding out our fifth year with nearly 3 million visits strong. A very exciting journey it has been, indeed. With our five year anniversary musings, we continue to move forward.
Each painting is made from a composite archive of found images supplemented by her own imagination, rendered in expressive, short brushstrokes and a distinctive palette of dark, dramatic tones.
