ARTPIL / Prescription .119
Spiritus Mundi

The end of Summer is upon us; another Fall at hand. A new world order awaits; and with it, a new set of uncertainties. The work place culture is in full transition with work places themselves now transformed. Children are back in school, or not…. Masks / No masks – this uncivil war playing out in parking lots across nations. And through it all, the one unbreakable cycle of two seasons in this post modern existence persists: election campaigns, and elections. Spiritus Mundi of such little certainty: The falcon cannot hear the falconer; Thing fall apart; The center cannot hold… (Yeats).

Welcome to the .119th edition of Prescriptions. We recently closed out some summer exhibitions, preparing now for the fall. Here is our review of the week in the arts.

Jan Voss

Jan Voss: Parcelles

“The painter is a loner in his studio. Therefore, not much has changed in my working approach during this lockdown. My work consists of worrying about the paper: its smoothness, its modesty.” –Jan Voss. Showing at Galerie Lelong & Co., Online Viewing Room.

Takesada Matsutani

Takesada Matsutani / Stream

Takesada Matsutani says of his work, “Time is for me, most important. I was born, I must die. But my conscious is streaming for infinity. My infinity, my purpose, my desire is there. That’s my imagination.” Presented online at Hauser & Wirth.

  • Nonmemory
    Sep 15, 2023 – Jan 14, 2024
    Hauser & Wirth
    Los Angeles, USA

Through a variety of media and material, the artists in this exhibition use space as the repository for dreams, fantasies, traumas and anxieties, while offering opportunities to re-imagine and recreate reality. The title of the exhibition Nonmemory, takes direct inspiration from Kelley’s use of the term, a way of treating, reordering and representing the complex and unstable relationship between memory, space and identity.
