SPARK Art Fair Vienna
Mar 25–27, 2022

SPARK Art Fair Vienna is returning for the second time, opening the European art season on March 24, 2022. Its unique exhibition architecture includes ninety solo presentations, three curated sections and a mix of eighty Austrian and international galleries. This makes SPARK Art Fair Vienna the leading fair for contemporary art in Austria.

Providing a first-class program, as usual, SPARK Art Fair Vienna once again lives up to its claim of being Austria’s and Central Europe’s living platform for both emerging and established art – whether for galleries, collectors, artists, patrons, or enthusiasts.

Contemporary Art for All

From March 24–27 2022, the historic Marx Halle in Vienna’s third district will once again be the showcase for the international art scene. Once again, Austria’s most renowned galleries will be present. This year, however, the SPARK Art Fair will be even more international: half of the participating exhibitors come from countries across the whole of Europe.

With SPARK Studio you can already get all the relevant information about the exhibiting artists, works and galleries.

Focused Art Fair

The reactions to the unique exhibition format of SPARK Art Fair Vienna were already overwhelming upon its premiere in 2021: the clear focus on individual presentations, the open fair architecture, the diversity of content and the constant dialogue between international and national artists make for a unique art experience.

Curated Sections for all Art Lovers

Building on last year’s debut, SPARK Art Fair is expanding its audience and furthering the increasing importance of art in our lives. In addition to its existing focus on solo presentations by both emerging and established artists, this year’s fair will again feature three curated sections, each with a clear focus and a finger on the pulse of the times:

SPARK EXPANDED
Entitled “Out of the Booth”, Christoph Doswald (Switzerland) presents artworks that would not usually find a place in the art fair landscape – be it because they are too vast, bulky, ephemeral or experimental for widespread commercial use.

Vera Molnar, Les Trames qui s’Ourdissent, 1992 / Vintage Galéria

Wieske Wester, Le bac, 2020 / Dürst Britt & Mayhew

Ulrike Rosenbach, Art is a Criminal Act, III / Galerie Gisela Clement

Clemens Wolf, Remix 7, 2021 / Sanatorium

Clemens Wolf, Remix 5, 2021 / Sanatorium

PHOTOGRAPHY
The increasing importance of photography by women artists in the contemporary art scene will be highlighted under the title “Women Photographers in Focus” in cooperation with the FOTO WIEN – Festival, curated by Bettina Leidl (Vienna) and Marieke Wiegel (Netherlands).

Anastasia Samoylova, Miami River, 2018 / Sabrina Amrani

THE FOURTH WALL
The exhibition “Gesamtkunstwerk”, curated by Fiona Liewehr (Vienna), is dedicated to multidisciplinary artists working at the interface between fine and applied arts. Environments are created that incorporate all elements of the fair’s architecture and break through the much-cited “fourth wall.”
