Olimpia Piccolo
Photographer

I am an Italo-American photographer based in Rome. My aim is to combine documentary and fashion photography in order to create a fun, but truthful narrative. My images are on the fine line between natural and staged with sarcastic and conceptual elements, where the observer is constantly questioning what they see. Bright flash, bright colors and ambiguity play a big role in my images as a way to provoke the viewers in regards to different social identity subjects.

While one believes the museum to be a place for the presentation of modern art, others view it as a showcase for Luxembourgish creation. And some see Mudam as a space for collectivity, for openness, for events and an experimental approach. (more…)

    Beneath The Surface
    Jul 1 – Sep 29, 2024
    Arles, France
Tremors and turmoil, spirits, traces, parallel readings and rereadings all constitute new perspectives underlying the 2024 edition of the Rencontres d’Arles. Photographers, artists and curators reveal their visions and stories, not least that of our humanity, by turns thwarted, in endless redefinition, resilient, but also visionary. Whether on the margins or established at the center, the narratives lead to divergent, multiple paths, all emanating from the faults in a porous surface: they intertwine, superimpose and overlap. The German dramatist Heiner Müller observed that German history lies as if smothered by a rheumatism blanket: beneath there is warmth and stagnation, just enough to give the impression all is well, while the peripheries are freezing. Georg Kussmann’s photographs in FRG were created under this metaphoric blanket. Made in the Federal Republic of Germany over a single summer, they depict everyday scenes of life, work, and leisure (more…)
