Sparkling Contusions is a photographic self-portrait that explores the theme of love-bombing, a toxic and manipulative form of affection used as a weapon for power and control. It was created during a toxic relationship with a pathologically narcissistic partner and uses vivid colors to represent the emotional bruises and scars. Heart-shaped rhinestones, initially charming, symbolize the love-bomber’s apparent affection but reveal themselves as painful projectiles upon closer inspection. This artwork conveys the complexity of the artist’s experiences and the devastating impact of toxic love on the human psyche.
