We are now well into summer and its slowness. Heat. Last month we celebrated Our Seventh Year Anniversary. Now into the Feast of the Assumption. And we continue.
Welcome to the 152nd edition of Prescriptions. Here is our guide to current events in the arts.

Maureen Dougherty
Maureen Dougherty
Maureen Dougherty plays with the push and pull between innocence and maturity – deliberately blurring the two in renderings that serve as commentary on the state of media and contemporary culture. On view through August 30, 2024 at Blum.

Gregory Crewdson
Gregory Crewdson: Retrospective
Gregory Crewdson is one of the world’s most renowned photographers. Since the mid-1980s, Crewdson has been using the backdrop of small American towns and film sets to create, like a director, technically brilliant and colourfully seductive photographs that focus on human isolation and the abysses of society. On view through September 8, 2024 at Albertina.

Bill Phelps / MOTOGRAPHIKA
MOTOGRAPHIKA
Recently released in a new series, Bill Phelps has launched MOTOGRAPHIKA, a treasure trove of vintage motorcycle marvels, shot in large format 8 x 10 cross process Polaroid analogue film and immortalized in timeless compositions and presented in signed and authenticated classic poster format.

77 Locarno Film Festival
The 77th edition of the Locarno Film Festival is set to be as bold, innovative, and vibrant as ever, with a program that will see cinema engaged in conversations with its present, history, and future, as well as with other art forms. Closing tomorrow, August 17, 2024.

Rencontres d’Arles 2024
Tremors and turmoil, spirits, traces, parallel readings and rereadings all constitute new perspectives underlying the 2024 edition of the Rencontres d’Arles. Photographers, artists and curators reveal their visions and stories, not least that of our humanity, by turns thwarted, in endless redefinition, resilient, but also visionary. Through September 29, 2024.

Jimmy DeSana & Paul P.: Ruins of Rooms
The resulting exhibition functions like a matryoshka doll, expanding our understanding of portraiture through an overlapping conversation between different generations, an ode to a lost generation. By Beatrice Sacco. Through October 20, 2024 at KW Institute for Contemporary Art.
