ARTPIL / Profiles of the Arts
ARTPIL / Prescription .001

Welcome to ARTPIL / Profiles of the Arts. If you are here reading this, you are among the inner circle of people who are privy to this new initiative in the world of modern & contemporary arts.

This new project will bring together the collective experience of all the participants, collaborators and contributors. You have a role in all of this.

As writers, photographers, art directors and designers, gallerists and curators, museum directors and art organizers, and, as artists, we will strive to make this platform vibrant and exciting.

We are launching with profiles of some great artists, from pillars like Picasso, to renegades like Banksy, and everyone in between, with some of our favorites like Max Beckman and Francesco Clemente, including provocateurs like Cindy Sherman, or the beloved Frida Kahlo, and icons such as Man Ray, Francesca Woodman and Jean-Michel Basquiat.

Profiles will also include organizations and institutions, from world class museums to local galleries, from landmarks like the MoMA, the Tate, and the Pompidou Center, and international galleries like the Gagosian and Serpentine, as well as the lesser known but innovative exhibit spaces and art organizations. And let’s not forget the magazines, many of which even predate the internet, Aesthetica, Flash Art and Wallpaper.

With daily articles we will cover gallery and museum exhibitions and openings, follow festivals and art fairs, from Frieze to Basel, as well as Documenta. We will bisect the Biennales around the world (Venice, Lyon, et al), and stay up for the Nuit Blanches. We will publish photo essays, artist interviews, reviews and previews. We will cover art and photography book releases and publishing events. We will announce opportunities for artists, such as grants and awards, fellowships and residencies.

Collaborations have already been initiated with some great individuals and organizations. We will be working with groups such as CultRise on exhibitions and The Artbox on design & publishing ventures; we will be adopting Photo Boite’s highly regarded and well followed 30 Under 30 Women Photographers and new collaborations are under way with Hunny and Bill Phelps Studio. Very exciting.

Please join us as we make ARTPIL the new and vital platform for the Arts. Participate, contribute and engage.
